The Hive

An audio series about the world of crime in Tel Aviv

The Hive is a groundbreaking audio series about the criminal underworld of the “Kerem HaTeimanim” neighborhood in Tel- Aviv, during the 70s-80s.

The series’ tale unfolds over 5 episodes featuring colorful, bold, and unusual crime stories, skillfully told by some of Israel’s best actors: Uri Gavriel, Gabi Amrani, Neta Garti, Yaniv Biton, Evelin Hagoel, Yaniv Swisa, Yoram Arbel, Kobi Farag, and more.

The series was recorded with binaural audio technology (8D) which adds a three-dimensional feel to the audio. This was achieved by using, for the first time ever in Israel, specialized equipment in the production of the series.

All the scenes were recorded in the original locations in the Kerem HaTeimanim neighborhood where the real events took place. Using our technology resulted in a realistic effect immersing listeners with the characters right in the heart of the action.

To immerse yourself completely in this special three-dimensional sound experience, listen to the series with headphones only.

The series is available for listening on the “Kan” website or app, and right here on this page.

The soundtrack of the series

The soundtrack of the series was composed by Or Matza, inspired by the music of the parties and cassettes of the seventies and eighties. The unique and recognizable sound of the eastern guitar was contributed to the soundtrack of the series by the pioneer of the genre – Yehuda Kiser.

Ahuva Ozeri, who was one of the symbols of musical activity in the Yemenite vineyard neighborhood in Tel Aviv, also found her way into the soundtrack, using her unique musical instrument, Bulboltrang, which Or Matza recorded after he learned to play it, especially for the project.

The theme song of the series, “Friends”, is an exciting and historical union of the band ‘Sounds of Oud’ – the pioneers of Mediterranean music in Israel, which roots in the Yemenite vineyard neighborhood.

Theme song

The song is performed by the band’s lead singer, Rami Danoch, and the eastern guitar is played by Yehuda Kiser, one of the pioneers of the genre.

The special text is taken from the ancient Yemenite book of poems – “The Diwan”. This book was written by Rabbi Shalom Shabazi, one of the spiritual ancestors of the poetry and thought of Yemenite Judaism. The text is about the joy and importance of friendship. More values that are important in the book are the need to celebrate and be happy, to put aside any sorrows. Those values are strongly identified with the character of the Yemenite vineyard neighborhood in Tel Aviv city, as well as the world of crime.

The theme song was composed by Or Matza, and produced by Shalom Gad.
